    • In 1917-1918, Esther Tuckness, registered land in Carter Co, Montana. Does anyone know who she was?

      Jerry

Jerry, I was visiting Kristy's website and noticed a question that you had asked concerning an Esther Tuckness registered land in Carter County, Montana. I believe that would be my great aunt, Esther Isabell Fowler Tuckness. She was married to Jesse Foster Tuckness, son of John Anderson.
They were married December 15, 1920 in Baker Montana. However, your dates show she bought land in 1917 or 1918. That is the confusing part. Terry

Esther Isabell (Fowler) Tuckness was my mother. However, I do not know my grandparent Fowlers first names. Believe Grandmother's name was Jennie. Her maiden name was Klaflin-not sure of the spelling. It was shortened from McGlaughlin-again not sure of the spelling.

I believe mother did register for some homestead land, but don't know the year(s) or the circumstances of the transaction.

Mother had brothers and sisters, but I only knew a couple of them. My sister, Margie Adair Tuckness Brooks is the historian in our family and I think she will get these messages through her daughter Sue Anne Brooks. I don't know if she responds to questions though. She doesn't have a computer of her own.
The land my parents homesteaded was on Box Elder Creek with the closest town of any size being Ekalaka, Montana.

Mother died before reaching her 95th birthday in Shelton, Washington, and is buried next to my dad near Elma, Washington. If I can be of any more help let me know.
I live near Winlock, Washington near Interstate 5 about halfway between Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington.

I talked to my sister today. She said grandmother Fowlers name was Jennie Lucinda and grandfather Fowler was Harry Alonzo Fowler. They had a homestead close to my parents in Montana.
She said that it is possible that Mother (Esther) had registered for the homestead land. It is possible that she registered before her and Dad were married and then changed the name to Tuckness later. Apparently my uncle Henry registered on the same land previously and then decided not to prove up on it and let Mother have it. I don't know all the correct language for homesteading and registering so maybe all the words aren't right, but believe this is possibly how the dates are turned around.
As far as other Fowlers are concerned, I don't believe we have any information on Grandfathers siblings.
